In Disney’s 1959 film, Princess Aurora is cursed by Maleficent to die on her sixteenth birthday by pricking her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel. Three kind fairies, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, manage to lift the curse’s power to an endless sleep. Still, the King and Queen fear for their daughter’s life, and task the fairies with protecting Aurora deep in the forest to nullify the curse.

Princess Aurora, as Briar Rose, looks curiously from underneath her shawl in the forest. On the front pocket below, Prince Phillip gallops valiantly to her rescue through Maleficent’s treacherous thorns. An enamel zipper charm of Phillip’s sword completes the scene. Turn the bag around and you’ll find the words “Once upon a dream” surrounded by thorns.
