Bicycle playing cards have been a popular pastime for over a century. The Bicycle brand was first introduced in 1885 by the United States Playing Card Company. The first design of the deck was inspired by the newly invented safety bicycles, which were becoming increasingly popular at the time. The design of the Bicycle card deck is based on the French "Tournier" deck, which was developed in the early 1800s. The Tournier deck had 52 cards, with four suits (hearts, diamonds, clubs, and spades), and two jokers. The extra suits were added to make the deck more suitable for gambling games like poker and blackjack.
